The Spirit of the Volunteer Band comprise of freshman through senior high school students. During the fall semester, all band students participate in band activities. The Marching Band include wind players, percussionists, and color guard members. The Spirit of the Volunteer Band provides musical entertainment during the varsity football games. The band also perform musical and visual program for the community and compete in marching competitions, including the UIL contests.
During the spring semester, students are assigned to one of three concert ensembles based on ability level: The Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band. Each band regularly meet to prepare for several concert performances though out the semester. Many of the students participate in individual events, such as the TMEA All- Region process and the AISD Solo & Ensemble Competition. Several students each year advance to the TMEA All-Area auditions, and eventually become part of one of the Texas All-State Bands or Orchestras, which perform during the Texas Music Educator’s Association (TMEA) Conference. As full ensembles, the concert bands compete at Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) Concert and Sight-Reading Contests as well as other various concert competitions during the winter and spring semesters. Additional winter and spring performance based programs are sustained in the winter and spring months, including the Percussion Ensemble, Winter Guard, and a Jazz music programs.
The Spirit of the Volunteer Band Program is faithfully supported by the incredible network of parents and community members. Booster members support the efforts of the band in a variety of ways. Through fundraisers, community activities and volunteerism, this supportive group works tirelessly alongside the band and its directors to provide quality performances.
