Rumaldo Solis

Head Band Director

Mr. Solis received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from West Texas A & M University and his Master's degree in Woodwind Performance and Education Administration from the University of North Texas. In addition, Mr. Solis has studied conducting with teachers at Texas A & M Commerce, and at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Mr. Solis has performed professionally in Europe, Taiwan, and China. He has performed at the Texas Music Educators Association convention in 1998, 1999, and 2000 in various ensembles. In August of 2000 Mr. Solis placed 2nd on clarinet in the National Intercollegiate Band Competition. Mr. Solis has been a frequent performer with the Metropolitan Winds in Irving, Texas and the Lakeshore Winds in Garland, Texas. Mr. Solis has collaborated with Los Angeles studio musicians such as Wayne Bergeron (Spiderman 2), Andy Martin (Dancing with the Stars), and Paul Salos (America’s Got Talent).  Mr. Solis has also recorded with Mark Custom Records, and Titanic Records. Mr. Solis has taught in Sherman ISD and Garland ISD. Mr. Solis’s Jazz Ensembles have successfully performed at the Collin County Jazz Festival, Lake Texoma Jazz Festival, UTA Jazz Festival, and at the prestigious Texas Christian University Jazz Festival placing 1st and 3rd.      

Mr. Solis’s wind bands have been named best in class in various festivals held in Louisiana, Colorado, and Texas.  Furthermore, they have received first division ratings at UiL Concert and Sightreading Contest. Mr. Solis has worked with marching bands who have received first division ratings at UiL marching contest and has placed 3rd in the state at the UiL State Marching Contest in 2005. On Mr. Solis’s spare time, he continues to work with students by sub-conducting the Flower Mound Youth Orchestra, Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra, and the Austin College Symphonic Band.

Rachel Friedman

Assistant Band Director

Mrs. Friedman graduated with her Bachelors Degree in Instrumental Music Education from The University of Tennessee at Martin in 2014. Her primary instruments include the trombone and euphonium. During her time at UT Martin she performed with eleven different ensembles including the Wind Ensemble and Marching Band, Trombone Choir/Quartet, Brass Quintet, Jazz Band/Combo, and Tuba Quartet. In 2012 she was given the opportunity to perform with the Jackson Symphony in Jackson, Tennessee and in the spring of 2013 she performed with the Tennessee Music Educators Association Collegiate Ensemble.

She taught taught 6th – 12th grade band in Olive Branch, Mississippi at Olive Branch High School and Middle School. Her drum corps experience includes marching four seasons with Music City Drum & Bugle Corps and is currently in her third year of teaching there as the Euphonium Tech.

Mrs. Friedman and her husband Noah were married this past summer and they are excited to join the Bowie family

Emmanuel Silveyra

Color Guard Director


Emmanuel Silveyra graduated from the University of North Texas with his Bachelor of Arts in Dance. He participated in Drum Corps International for 4 years.  With DCI, he toured across the United States, first with The Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps out of San Antonio, TX, then with The Cavaliers of Chicago, IL. Additionally, he was a performing member of the renowned Ars Nova Winter Guard for 3 years where he earned a silver medal at the 2010 Winter Guard International World Championships. Currently, Emmanuel is a dance company member of the Movers Unlimited Touring Dance Company where he started back in 2014.

Emmanuel has had 8 years of teaching/directing experience. He has assisted with the colorguard at Flower Mound High School and Insignia Independent Winter Guard. Emmanuel is currently the Director of Dance at the International Leadership of Texas: Arlington Grand Prairie High School and also serves as the Lead District Dance Teacher. Emmanuel is absolutely excited to be back at his alma mater, James Bowie High School, to direct the colorguard for many years to come!
